President
Raised in Winnemucca, NV, Kayla Simons proudly represents several generations of Humboldt County families. Her roots in mining and ranching communities gave her firsthand insight into rural Nevada’s hardworking spirit and consumer values. After earning her business degree from Great Basin College in 2007, Kayla rose through leadership roles in management and regional sales, overseeing operations across Nevada, California, and New Mexico.
In 2014, Kayla turned her entrepreneurial drive toward photography, founding Stunned Photography, a thriving local business. Her transition into remodeling began in 2016 with Desert Design, where she excelled as a design consultant and later as Sales and Advertising Manager. By 2022, Kayla’s passion for design, leadership, and local business led her to acquire Desert Design to preserve its strong values while expanding growth and sustainability. Today, she continues to guide the company as President, blending her business acumen and creative vision to lead one of Northern Nevada’s premier design centers.
Director of Operations
Shelby Simons brings more than 25 years of experience in underground gold mining before transitioning to the remodeling industry. After relocating from Washington State to Nevada in 2018, Shelby joined Desert Design in 2019 as a countertop fabricator, quickly mastering stone fabrication, flooring, cabinetry, and tile installation.
His hands-on expertise and natural leadership led to his advancement as Director of Operations. Shelby now oversees company installations and project management across both Winnemucca and Elko locations. Known for his commitment to quality and precision, he ensures every project meets the company’s high standards of excellence. Shelby’s leadership sets the tone for a culture of integrity, craftsmanship, and teamwork at Desert Design Carpet One Floor & Home.
Director of Finance
A longtime Winnemucca resident, Camille Congdon has been a vital part of Desert Design since its early years. Her extensive industry knowledge and financial expertise have helped shape the company’s continued success. As Director of Finance, Camille manages financial operations with a focus on structure, sustainability, and strategic growth.
Camille’s careful balance of innovation and fiscal responsibility ensures that Desert Design remains secure and forward-moving. Her deep understanding of both the company’s history and its long-term goals makes her an invaluable leader in maintaining the stability and integrity that clients have trusted for decades.
